Description
The painting “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys” was originally made in 2017 in Dallas, Texas in Matthew Brinston’s warehouse studio on Exposition Drive. The painting made on an Italian window curtain was later collected in early 2019. Shortly after the painting was collected a number of new corporate and private collectors invited Brinston to move to New York City for several projects that were under way. In the following year of 2020, amid preparation of the collections Brinston was creating across 2 NYC studios Brinston made the decision to make his first silkscreen series. The painting from 2017, “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys” was chosen as the focus image of this project.
The series of 100 silkscreen paintings of the same color scheme, 24 color variations and 10 artists personal proofs were made in August and September of 2020 at printmaker
Gary Lichtenstein Editions studio at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The series was offered to Brinston’s online following for pre-order during the final 2 weeks of production at Mana Contemporary. During that time frame 74 silkscreen paintings were sold and the remaining 26 were acquired in the following weeks of the silkscreens official sale.
